Mercy Home Prize Winner Recently Enjoys Trip to Cork!
Tuesday, September 23, 2008
Celtic history portrays the shamrock as a good luck charm against evil—a representation of hope. Hence, Mercy Home’s annual Shamrock for Kids event is a symbol of good luck—of hope, for the thousands of abused and abandoned children throughout the Chicago, Illinois area. Founded in 1887, the organization has helped more than 22,000 children and adolescents from dysfunctional and chaotic domestic situations to seek and find shelter, hope and a fresh start in one or another of Mercy Home’s fourteen residential homes.
On Saturday, March 15, 2008 Mercy Home hosted the 13th annual Post-Parade St. Patrick's Day Celebration. The family-friendly event featured great Irish food and entertainment and filled the International Ballroom of the Chicago Hilton Hotel with dancers, musicians, costumed characters, face-painters and kids of all ages.
Visit Cork County was present at the event and was delighted to once again offer a 4 night hotel stay in Cork County for 4 people as part of the prize the organization offers, in conjunction with American Airlines, who offers the round-trip economy air from Chicago to Dublin. Consumers were entered into the ‘Shamrock For Kids Vacation Sweepstakes’ when they used their Jewel-Osco Preferred card to purchase Edy’s, Kimberley-Clark & Kellogg’s products.

The winner of this year’s prize was James Coleman from Tinley Park, Illinois who recently traveled to County Cork, Ireland where he enjoyed 2 nights in Cork City at the 4 Star Jurys Hotel overlooking the River Lee and 2 nights at the 3 Star Celtic Ross Hotel in picturesque West Cork.
As a vital part of the Cook County-Cork County partnership, Visit Cork County is proud to be a part of the Mercy Home promotion and all the good work that it does throughout Chicago. The Cork delegation is excited to begin planning to take part in the 2009 event, in their 4th annual trip to Chicago.
