When Mallow Golf Club called upon the services of J. D. Harris to plan the extension of their course from nine to 18 holes, in the 1960's, it made one of the most judicious decisions of its life.
There is no-nonsense air about the golf here. The first nine is by far the longer at 3,550 yards (3,230 metres) so little pity is shown for the golfer who thinks he will be alright by the time he has played three or four holes!
The back nine measures just 3,090 yards (2,824 metres) but still demands careful navigation to the 18th where one's senses get a final jolt when presented with a tough par three of 202 yards (186 metres) right in front of the clubhouse gallery!
